In-House Training Courses

The Institute of Art and Law offers bespoke in-house training courses for museums, auction houses, law firms and insurance companies. The training courses can last one, two or three days and are led by experienced professionals in the field. This will help your organisation gain relevant expertise in this very complex area. Upon completion, attendees will receive an IAL Certificate. Note: we now offer these training sessions online.

Topics cover the essential areas of law that affect the day-to-day practice of professionals in this
field including:
● Acquisition
● Ownership
● Loans
● Gifts
● Intellectual property
● Imports and exports
● Immunity from seizure
● Restitution or repatriation

The IAL has run successful in-house courses for the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Southbank Centre, National Museums Liverpool, the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and the University of Oxford Museums, as well as the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Qatar Museums in Doha, Qatar and the museum sector in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“Fantastic… The course was a perfect mixture of lectures and informal and interactive discussions.”

“One of the best workshops I ever attended.”

“Everyone really enjoyed it, loved the speakers, and found the content thought-provoking and engaging. I highly recommend this for all curators.” [Bronwyn Campbell, Curator, Provenance, National Gallery of Australia]
